What we do
Giving rural women a voice in Samar
SPPI’s Local Economy Development Program (LEDP) works towards livelihoods and enterprise development for the poor households of Samar Island.
LEDP facilitates financial and provides governance support for enterprise development and sustainability in seaweeds, and root crops and vegetables production. The Community Development Workers (CWDs) of SPPI promote ecologically and economically-sound farming technologies among local farmers.
SPPI works in partnership with the local government units (barangays and municipal) supporting coastal resource management schemes such as mangrove reforestation.
Another key area of the LEDP is strengthening people’s participation in community development processes, particularly women.
